The taskforce, including all commanders of the security services and officers from the regional office of the Electoral Commission (EC), is mandated to co-ordinate the creation of a safe environment for the elections.

Other members include representatives of  the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Regional Co-ordinating Council, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

The taskforce will also plan, implement and monitor activities prior to, during and after the elections.

As part of its mandate, the taskforce is also expected to intensify highway patrols and confidence patrols to ensure uninterrupted movement of EC officials and materials.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, who commissioned the taskforce, charged members to work towards ensuring incident-free elections.

Mr Quansah  advised the members to collaborate in making the election  a success.

The Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ransford Moses Ninson, gave the assurance that the taskforce would work  to make the election incident-free  in the region.

He further pledged that the security agencies would collaborate with the EC and other stakeholders involved in the decentralisation process and, thus, urged the public to co-operate with the taskforce in its work.

The Deputy Regional Director of the EC, Mr Anthony Nyame, said the EC was working with the security agencies to identify potential flashpoints in order to map up strategies to address any potential problems.

He stated that the EC had begun mounting a number of platforms for candidates to enable them to sell their manifestos to the electorate.
