CPP determined to recapture power in 2020

The acting Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, has stated that the party will present a new force for Election 2020 with the election of its new leaders.

She said the party was resolute and keen to deploy every available arsenal within its party structures to ensure the success of CPP’s 2020 election agenda.

The CPP would give the other political parties, particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a good run for their money in next year’s election, and the party “is coming with a full strength and a determined spirit to win back power,” she stated.

Already, Hajia Ibrahim said the party had begun the election of its regional executives, adding that CPP had conducted its regional elections in 14 regions, with the exception of the Greater Accra and Volta regions which would be done very soon.

She said the election of the party’s new leaders would position the CPP to come out with new energy in the 2020 election.

“During the past few weeks that we have toured the 14 regions, we have realised that the newly elected party regional executives are so motivated and resolute to give their all in the 2020 election,” she said in an interview with the Daily Graphic.

Hajia Ibrahim said the party was prepared and ready to roll out its election campaign as soon as it managed to finish with the regional and national elections.

Constitution

Asked when the party intended to head for congress to elect its national executives and flag bearer, Hajia Ibrahim said the party was yet to make a decision but suggested it could happen early next year.

She said the party was doing everything in consultation with its leadership and also subjecting every aspect of its election agenda to the Constitution of the CPP.

Hajia Ibrahim said there had been a lot of suggestions regarding when and where the party should conduct its national congress, but a decision regarding it had not been made.

She said the national delegates’ congress where the party would elect its national executives and flag bearer would have more than 2,000 delegates converge on one place to do so.

Hajia Ibrahim said the party was battle-ready for Election 2020 and that it would make sure the right campaign message “is communicated to the people”.

“Once the message goes down well with people, CPP will be back to power in 2021,” she added.

Hajia Ibrahim called on the country’s voting community, especially the youth, to turn their attention to the CPP as the alternative party to the NDC and the NPP.
