CPP opens nominations for presidential, MP aspirants

Nominations for presidential and parliamentary aspirants of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) were opened yesterday, December 28.

The Central Committee of the party took the decision at its meeting on December 21.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Communication, Kadri Abdul Rauf Issifu, and issued to the press in Accra yesterday.

Close of nominations

The statement said nominations would close on January 11, 2016, for the presidential contenders and Thursday, March 31, 2016 for parliamentary aspirants.
It said the committee also fixed fees for the forms for the presidential aspirants at GH¢5,000.00 and filing at GH¢10,000.00.

According to the statement, fees for the forms for the parliamentary aspirants are pegged at GH¢500.00 while filing is at GH¢2,000.00.

Vetting of aspirants will be from January 12 to 15, 2016.

Committee
The CPP Central Committee also swore in and confirmed the following as chairmen of committees. They are Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa - Organisational Committee, Mr Kwamena Benyarko - Research Committee, Mr K.T. Dadzie - Finance Committee, Mr Kwaw Ansah - Disciplinary Committee, and Mr Ekow Duncan - Political Affairs.

The committee also appointed Kadri Abdul Rauf Issifu as the Director of Communication, Ms Anita H. Abaidoo, as Chief of Welfare and Sistus Ullo as Chair of Youth Affairs Committee.

Meanwhile, Ms Yaba Samia Nkrumah, a former chairperson and leading member of the party, was the first to pick her nominations forms.

A group of young CPP stalwarts yesterday picked the forms on her behalf when the nominations were opened by the National Chairman, Prof. Edmund Delle.
Prof. Delle said the Central Committee decided on the fees, however moderate, to enable the party to rake in some funds to open offices across the country.

He urged both presidential and parliamentary aspirants to engage in campaigns devoid of acrimony and insults to ensure a united front of the party as it planned to participate in the 2016 elections.
