Ensure that qualified persons register — Sarpong

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for Nhyiaeso, Mr Samuel Sarpong, has charged assembly members and Unit Committee members in the country to ensure that qualified persons who have attained 18 years take the opportunity to register during the upcoming limited voter registration.

He explained that registering as a voter was a purely civic responsibility which should be exercised by all who have attained 18 years and qualified as stated by the Constitution of Ghana and therefore people must be encouraged to partake in it.

Dr Sarpong, who is the Chief Executive of the State Housing Company, was addressing some community members at Adiebeba in Kumasi and some football teams as part of moves to form formidable football teams in the community.

The community football tournament was part of measures to revive football in the area, groom talents and eventually have a team to qualify to play in the premiership.

As a first step, he has sponsored the community football matches, giving each of the seven teams a set of jerseys, and presented footballs for the tournament, cash prizes a trophy and a set of jerseys for the winning team.

Eschew Politics

Mr Sarpong urged the assembly members to ensure that they did not taint their call on people to register with partisan politics.

He expressed worry at the increasing rate at which every issue in the country had been politicised, which, he said, was affecting the unity of the country and urged all to refrain from that practice.
