Former Energy Minister Agyarko throws his hat in the ring for NPP top job
Former Energy Minister, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has formally announced his bid for the National Chairmanship of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), framing his decision as a response to a widespread "call to duty."
In a press release dated September 30, 2025, Mr Agyarko revealed that his decision followed extensive personal consultations. "I have had consultations with members of my family and those who are very close to me, and whose lives would be most affected by the decisions I make," he stated.
He further indicated that he had been attentive to the demands of the party's grassroots and the wider public, saying, "I have also listened carefully to what the broad masses of our party people, and indeed many outside our party, are asking of me."
After weighing these factors, the former Minister concluded that it was his obligatory duty to step forward.
"Having factored in all the considerations, I see it as my bounden duty to respond to this call to duty, and hereby announce that I will contest for the position of NATIONAL CHAIRMAN of my party upon the opening of nominations," the release quoted.
This declaration sets the stage for a keenly contested race for the top party position, which will be crucial for the NPP's strategy as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.
