According to the forum, her appointment has given true meaning and commitment to the principles of affirmative action and respect to the womenfolk of this country.

In a signed statement, the group also commended the President and the Council of State for adhering to the constitutional provisions as enshrined by the Supreme Law of Ghana.

Vigilance

The statement was signed by Mr Michael Kwabena Ampong, Executive Director, Mr Alfred Taylor, Administrative Secretary, and Mr Tweneboa Kodua, Public Relations, all of the group.

“For us at the National Youth Leadership Forum, we maintain our strict vigilance and respect and adherence to the dictates of the Constitution unless otherwise certain acts are amended or repealed,” the forum stated

As a forum of relatively younger persons, it expressed the hope that Mrs Osei would discharge her duties well, especially during election 2016, to bring more honour to women and the nation.

The forum prayed to God to give the new EC boss the boldness and courageous spirit of the famous Yaa Asantewaa of blessed memory to lead Ghana to the promise land.

According to the forum, with the timely appointment of the new E.C chairperson, all was now set for a fervent preparation towards the 2016 general elections.

Electorial System

“It is our hope that the new chairperson and her team of very experienced commissioners would ensure that all the errors in our electoral system as exposed by the last Supreme Court petition in 2013, would be fairly addressed to boost the confidence of all political parties and the good people of Ghana in all future elections,” it stated.

The forum also urged all political parties to bring to the attention of the Commissioner and her team all their worries and concerns before the general election in 2016.

“For us at the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF), we urge all Ghanaians to be vigilant and co-operate with the Electoral Commission to conduct a successful election in 2016. For we have One Ghana, One People and One Destiny,” it said.

Lauds Afari Gyan

The forum also congratulated the immediate past Electoral Commissioner Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan, on the successful completion of his tenure which spanned almost two decades as the Commissioner of the EC.

“During his tenure, our electoral system has undergone a lot of reforms from the days of opaque electoral boxes to the present system of using transparent ballot boxes, picture identity cards, and use of biometric register and voting system,” the forum stated.

“Despite the huge challenges, especially with the 2012 general election and the yet-to-be conducted District Assembly elections, we still feel obligated to evaluate and appreciate your immense contributions and efforts towards the development and entrenchment of democratic governance under the Fourth Republic. We say “Ayeekooooo” to you and wish you every success in your future endeavours,” the forum’s statement added.
