GCGL Provides training to pep up election coverage team
The Head of Monitors of the Accra regional police, Supt Theodore Hlomenu who led the exercise, took the team through basic safety measures and what not to do at a polling station, collation centre and the other levels of the process.
He advised that the foremost thing to do on reaching a place where an electioneering activity would be taking place would be for them to introduce themselves to the assigned officials, particularly EC officials and the security.
Following are the other measures outlined
Exchange contacts with any security officer on the ground on reaching a polling station
Avoid hot spots
In case of any disturbance, stay as close to the security as possible
Source information on election from EC officials
Don’t rely on information provided by party functionaries
Don’t attempt to extract information from the police. Personnel on duty can only comment on the security situation on the ground
Stay out of trouble
In a situation of extreme difficulty, call the police emergency number, 18555
Report accurately
