Akwatia by-election will be peaceful — DCE
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Denkyembour, Ahmed Omar Tutu, has reassured Ghanaians that there would be absolute peace before, during and after the September 2, 2025, by-election at Akwatia in the Eastern Region.
He said that, to achieve that objective, the Denkyembour District Security Committee (DISEC) had introduced effective security measures to allow both sides of the political divide to conduct their campaigns without any intimidation.
Mr Tutu also appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to strengthen security in the constituency so that members of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) can conduct their political campaigns peacefully.
Communal labour
The DCE gave the assurance when he addressed the people of Akyem Kusi in the Akwatia Constituency after joining them to undertake communal labour in the community last Sunday.
The DCE provided a grader for the communal labour.
He warned hooligans planning to disrupt the by-election to reconsider their decision as the DISEC would not spare anyone who caused confusion at the election.
Mr Tutu praised the communal spirit of the people of Kusi and encouraged other communities to learn from them to enhance sanitation in their areas.
Market
He gave the assurance that the district assembly would construct a modern market at Kusi.
The Gyaasehene of Kusi, Nana Okoda Darko I, urged the DCE to ensure that the Oda-Kade road under construction was not only finished on schedule but also built to a high standard so it would last long.
He also urged him to ensure that the tarring of the Kusi town roads, which had been on the drawing board for years, was carried out this year.
Nana Okoda Darko was grateful to Mr Tutu for being the first ever DCE to join the people of Kusi in undertaking communal labour in the community.
