Reconstituted Mamobi, Kwaotsuru zonal councils inaugurated

The Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region has inaugurated the reconstituted Mamobi and Kwaotsuru zonal councils to push forward the frontier of decentralisation and good governance in the municipality.

The Mamobi Zonal Council is made up of 15 members and is chaired by the Assembly Member for Mamobi West Electoral Area, Alidu Zainu Deen, while the Kwaotsuru Zonal Council comprises 10 members and is chaired by the Assembly member for Agbaadzena Electoral Area, Prince Nuhu Ahmed.

Each zonal council comprises of elected Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members in accordance with the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936) and Local Government (Urban, Zonal and Town Council and Unit Committees) Establishment Instrument 2010.

The inauguration ceremony coincided with the commissioning of two Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) laboratories at the Unity cluster of schools at Mamobi and a social centre at Kwaotrusu in Accra New Town.

Good governance

Inaugurating the councils at a brief ceremony at Accra New Town, the municipal capital, last Tuesday, the Ayawaso North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Haruna Mohammed Awal, said the councils will serve as a beacon of decentralisation and bring good governance to the local level.

That, he said, will go a long way to foster the government’s decentralisation agenda of bringing governance to the doorstep of the people.

Mr Awal congratulated the members of the two zonal councils and urged them to give their maximum effort to push the zonal councils forward.
