Amenfi Central MP advocates women’s leadership, governance

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has underscored the importance of creating an enabling environment for women to engage in leadership and decision making processes.

She proposed strategies such as political parties to reserve some parliamentary seats for their female members, leadership training and financial support to encourage more women to step into governance roles.

Ms Cudjoe said this while contributing to discussions as a panel member on women's rights and empowerment dialogue to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day held in Accra last Saturday.

The event, under the distinguished patronage of Vice-President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, focused on the theme "Resetting the Agenda for Women: Accelerating Action on Women's Rights, Equity and Empowerment."

The Amenfi Central legislator emphasised that true progress can only be achieved when women are given equal opportunities to lead and influence policies that shape the future.

“Helping women leaders make a difference,” she said and stressed the need for mentorship, networking and access to resources to empower women in leadership.

Ms Cudjoe stressed the importance of training programmes and financial support to help women leaders grow and make a meaningful impact in their respective fields.

She reaffirmed her commitment to continuing the conversation and collaborating with stakeholders to champion policies that support women's empowerment and leadership.

‘With collective effort, society can create a more just and equitable future where women and girls can thrive,” she stated.
