Constitutional review: CRC appeals to citizens to contribute to reforms

The Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) has reiterated its appeal to Ghanaians to participate and contribute to the processes for the review of the 1992 Constitution.

"The Constitution belongs to all Ghanaians. As such, your voices are essential to this national process.

"We encourage all citizens, community leaders, civil society organisations, traditional authorities, youth groups and other stakeholders to participate actively in the upcoming engagements," it said.

A statement signed and issued by the Secretary to the CRC, Dr Rainer Akumperigya, announced a nationwide series of Zonal Public Engagements to solicit views and proposals from Ghanaians on the review of the 1992 Constitution.

The public engagements are scheduled to take place in various cities across the country, starting from Bolgatanga on June 16-17, 2025, and followed by Tamale (June 18-19), Wa (June 23-24), Koforidua (July 3-4), Ho (July 7-8), Accra (July 10-11), Cape Coast (July 15-16), Takoradi (July 17-18), Sunyani (July 24-25) and Kumasi (July 28-29).

It said the engagements would provide an opportunity for Ghanaians to contribute their views on the constitutional review process.

"Let us work together towards a Constitution that reflects our shared values, aspirations and the future development of our nation," it added.

It said the engagements aim to gather inputs from citizens and stakeholders, providing an opportunity for Ghanaians to contribute to the constitutional review process.

The statement said the committee would also continue to invite and encourage citizens to send written submissions to submissions@constitutionreviewgh.org.

Recall

In an earlier interview with the Daily Graphic, Dr Akumperigya said the committee was on track to execute the task assigned to it in spite of the revised schedule for the zonal engagements as part of the ongoing constitutional review process.

He, however, entreated the government to provide the committee with more resources to facilitate the completion of its work on schedule.

Dr Akumperigya said that although the committee had been well-supported by the government so far, with the establishment of a secretariat and the necessary logistics, much needed to be done.

"If the government gives that level of commitment and more resources to the committee, we will be able to meet the timelines officially given by the President," the Secretary to the CRC said.

He stated that continued government support was crucial for the committee to stay on track and stressed the importance of sustained funding for the committee's work.
