Daddy Lumba’s death: A national loss — NDC, NPP

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have expressed sorrow with the passing away of Ghana’s highlife musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, describing it as a national loss.

The two major political parties expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased.

This was contained in two separate statements signed by the NDC chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong.

NDC

In its statement, the NDC said Daddy Lumba belonged to “that class of Ghanaian musicians who transcended every barrier and was loved and admired by each and every one of his fellow citizens.”

It said his death was yet another sad testament of the unpredictability of life and death, and the merciless manner in which it claims the bright and the beautiful, and the young and the old.

“As the family and friends prepare to give him a befitting burial, the NDC party stands ready to be of comfort and assistance to the family as they go through this painful experience,” it said.

NPP

The NPP described Daddy Lumba as an "iconic music legend" whose remarkable contributions to the Ghanaian music industry touched countless lives.

It praised Daddy Lumba’s ability to connect with people from all walks of life, describing him as a national treasure whose music brought joy, comfort and inspiration to millions.

It acknowledged Daddy Lumba's significant role in its political campaigns, particularly through the famous track "Nana Ye Winner", which featured prominently in the party's 2008, 2012, and 2016 election campaigns.

"The power and inspiration behind those songs were acknowledged even by our political opponents," the statement noted.

The statement assured the family, friends and fans of the NPP’s solidarity in this period of mourning.

"In the years to come, Daddy Lumba will be remembered not only for his immense contributions to music but also for his role in uplifting and uniting the Ghanaian spirit," it stated.

In a tweet, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo described the late artiste as “a pantheon among musical greats of all time”, acknowledging both the personal loss of a friend and the national loss of a cultural icon.

On his part, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said the sudden demise of the musician is a major blow to the nation and the music industry.

"His brilliant compositions and works have not only entertained but also inspired and uplifted many of us.

His passing is indeed a huge blow, not only to the music fraternity but to the entire country," he said in a post shared via Facebook.
