EC postpones district assembly, unit committee by-election
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the postponement of all District Assembly and Unit Committee by-elections until further notice.
A press release issued by the Commission yesterday and signed by the Deputy Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department, Fred Tetteh, said it was to inform the general public that the scheduled by-elections had been put on hold until further notice.
It said new dates for the by-elections would be announced in due course.
The by-elections were to fill vacancies created by the resignation or death of elected assembly members and unit committee members, in accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by Act 940.
Earlier statement
The Commission, in an earlier statement on October 6, 2025, said the district assembly and unit committee by-elections were scheduled to take place nationwide on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
The by-elections were to take place in 756 electoral areas and unit committees across 180 districts in the country in regions including Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Central, Eastern, Bono, Ahafo, Western and Western North.
Some of the notable districts and communities where the by-elections were to take place include Ablekuma Central, Weija-Gbawe, La-Nkwantanang and Adenta in the Greater Accra Region; Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem and Mfantseman in the Central Region; Jomoro, Ellembelle, Nzema East and Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region; Asuogyaman, Yilo Krobo, Suhum and New Juaben in the Eastern Region.
The rest were Adansi South, Obuasi Municipal, Bosomtwe and Offinso North in the Ashanti Region and Keta, Ketu South, Ho and Afadjato South in the Volta Region.
