Election 2024: Don’t prevent candidates from campaigning — Minister
Ahead of the December 7, 2024, elections, the Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, has cautioned the people against preventing candidates from campaigning, especially in the Bawku area.

He said some people were preventing some candidates from undertaking political activities within the six constituencies in the Bawku area, a development which would not be countenanced in the area.
“I want to send a word of caution to the people as the act would not be tolerated in the area and other parts of the region,” he stressed.

He was speaking at a ceremony to introduce a new Bissa Chief, Kir Salifu Mahama Awinaba, in the Pusiga Traditional Area.
The minister’s caution was a result of an action by some people to prevent the posters of the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in parts of the Bawku area, except the parliamentary candidates of the NPP and candidates of other political parties.

Dr Salih said information gathered indicated that some miscreants had resolved to prevent Dr Bawumia from campaigning in the area, saying “You can close your eyes and ears, but nobody can prevent the NPP presidential aspirant from embarking upon campaign activities in the Bawku enclave”.
He warned that such undemocratic acts tended to threaten the country’s democracy and, therefore, called on the people to stop threatening persons wearing T-shirts of Dr Bawumia and rather to do everything possible to stop such negative practices to protect the peace in the area.
He stated that Ghana was a democracy and that anybody who aspired for any political position must be allowed to campaign to win the hearts of the electorates, irrespective of their location.

Peace for development
Dr Salih indicated that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) would ensure that there was peace and harmony in the region so that political parties could go about their political activities without any hindrance.
He said the area could not achieve the desired development without peace, charging the new chief to mobilise the people and support the Pusiga Naba to drive the progress of the district.
“Pusiga has the potential of being a significant place in the region and I expect that all stakeholders will support the Pusiga Naba to ensure that there is lasting peace in the area for the benefit of all,” he said.
