Era of NPP, NDC duopoly over — Alan Kyerematen

An independent presidential candidate, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has stated that discerning Ghanaian voters will vote for him massively to end the duopoly of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

"This election is not about NPP or NDC. The era of the duopoly is over. The Movement for Change is here to stay, and together, we are breaking the cycle and bringing real progress to Ghana", he emphasised.

Mr Kyerematen, who is the founder and leader of the Movement for Change, said the era of political parties, especially NDC and NPP, claiming dominance over regions and constituencies as their strongholds would be a thing of the past after the December 7 elections.

Afranfranto Mega Walk

Mr Kyerematen made the remarks after a massive walk, christened the "Afranfranto Mega Victory Walk", held in Kumasi on Saturday, October 19, 2024, where he commended his supporters and the hundreds of floating voters who joined the walk.

Some notable faces identified during the walk included the Founder of the United Front Party (UFP), Kwasi Addae Odike, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary hopeful, Hopeson Adorye, and a former General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Ohene Ntow.

Most of the supporters carried placards, some of which read: "No more Loot and Share," " Movement for Change=Transformation", "Hope for the Youth", " Ghana First", and "Alan the People's Choice" as well as "End of NDC NPP Duopoly", " Unity Movement for All", "No More Family & Friends", and "GTP Has 24-hour Economy Already".

The two-hour walk, which commenced at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Kumasi, brought the Central Business district to a standstill, as hundreds of supporters and floating voters joined the walk.

The Yellow and Black colours of the party dominated the main streets of Kejetia through to the Asafo Interchange and ended at the Kumasi City Mall.

Projects continuity

Mr Kyerematen said one of the main headaches of the Ghanaian was the lack of continuity of projects anytime those two parties (NDC/NPP) changed power, and that  "we are coming to power to complete all the projects neglected by these two parties to help improve the lives of the ordinary Ghanaian".

"Thank you to the people of the Ashanti Region for turning out in your numbers today at the Afrafranto Mega Walk! Your energy and unwavering belief in our cause have made it clear; Ashanti is home, and we are ready for change.

"This election is not about NPP or NDC. The era of the duopoly is over. The Movement for Change is here to stay, and together, we are breaking the cycle and bringing real progress to Ghana,” he said, stressing that “the support we’ve seen today proves that the future belongs to us.”

He said the days of "this is my stronghold is over, voters are now discerning and we are confident of winning".

He said this year's elections would not be about mere manifesto promises, but a plan on- how those documented promises could be implemented was what voters cared to know to inform their decision in the selection of a credible party to lead the country.
