EU commended for support to assembly

The Municipal Coordinating Director for the Bibiani–Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly (BABMA), Mr Sahib M. Abdul Rahman, has commended the European Union (EU) for its support programmes to the assembly in the past three years.

Through the EU’s support programme, he said, the assembly had witnessed improvements in its projects, especially in the area of transportation where residents “can now bring goods and services closer to the people in the area.

“The capacity training programme the assembly received through the EU’s programme has brought much improvement in BABMA and contributed in making daily activities of residents better,” Mr Rahman said at a forum at Bibiani in the Western North Region.

The forum was to review progress made in the EU’s programme in the last three years.

He said the EU’s support for the assembly had promoted local economic development by producing and bringing goods and services closer to the people in the area.

EU Project Director

Throwing more light on the programme, the EU Project Director at BABMA, Mr Ernest Yankson, said the EU support programme, which started in 2016, was aimed at capacity building to increase Internally Generated Funds (IGF) and to enhance the capacity of agro–chain value and increase food production.

He indicated that during the period under review, there were a series of training programmes aimed at upgrading the skills of residents.

Through the programme, Mr Yankson said 145 BABMA personnel had received training on effective mobilisation and management of funds, while 16 registered farmers and players in the agro–business were also trained in modern agricultural practices.

Consensus

After the forum, participants were of the general consensus that the EU programme had been very beneficial to all stakeholders and called for its sustenance.
