Ga East Assembly launches ‘24-hour Clean Ga East’ initiative
The Ga East Municipal Assembly has launched a “24-hour Clean Ga East” initiative to address sanitation challenges in the municipality.
The programme would be enforced through the establishment of sanitation courts and a task force that would move around communities to ensure compliance, the Municipal Planning Officer, Margaret Amemasor, has said.
She said the exercise would focus particularly on principal streets and public places to maintain cleanliness across the municipality.
Town hall
She was speaking at the assembly’s first town hall meeting for the year, to present the performance of the 2025 plan to residents.
The meeting highlighted major challenges confronting the municipality, including recurrent flooding, inadequate funding, encroachment on public lands and land litigation, as well as rising cases of drug abuse, child neglect and custody disputes.
Ms Amemasor said the assembly would engage the private sector through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to undertake major infrastructure projects, especially in the economic sector.
That approach, she said, would allow private entities to partner the assembly in delivering key projects, thereby reducing the financial burden on the assembly, while accelerating development.
She said the assembly achieved 91.6 per cent implementation of its planned activities for 2025.
Engagement
The Municipal Chief Executive, Edmond Agboh, said the town hall meeting formed part of efforts to account to the people and involve them in decision-making.
He said the assembly had previously engaged residents to identify their needs and would continue to work with them to address those concerns.
He encouraged participants to contribute ideas, ask questions, and offer constructive criticism, stressing that leadership welcomed feedback to help improve governance. He said heads of departments were present to engage directly with residents and respond to their concerns.
Mr Agboh assured residents that the assembly remained committed to working with them to improve living conditions and deliver on its mandate.
