Govt failure showing in markets — Prof. Opoku-Agyemang

The running mate of the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has stated that the true state of Ghana's economy is evident in the markets.

She said the high cost of food products and other items showed that the government had failed the nation. "We all go to the market and, therefore, we know how expensive and unbearable the cost of items, including food products, have become,” she stated.

Mankessim market

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated this when she addressed market leaders, traders, commercial drivers and commuters at the Mankessim Market in the Mfantseman Constituency in the Central Region as part of her tour of the region.

She said Ghanaians did not need a lecture to know the extent of failure due to mismanagement, stressing, “everything is clear in the markets and shops." "If you want a change for the better, then vote for the NDC to return to power to effectively manage the country to reduce the cost of living," she said.

Market development

Touching on development in the market and the Mankessim area, she noted that redesigning and constructing modern markets remained one of the key points in the next NDC government's agenda.

That, she explained, was because of the value the party placed on markets and traders. She cited the various development infrastructure the NDC built at Mankessim, including the development of the market and questioned what the current government has done for them.

"Haven't we done it before?", she asked and urged the people to support the NDC to return to power to continue with its projects that have been abandoned in the area by the government.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also informed the traders about the proposed introduction of a Women’s Development Bank, which would provide credit to traders to expand their businesses, saying "we have great plans for you traders."
