I represent hope for NPP — Kwabena Agyei Agyepong

A flag bearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong (KAA), has said he represents the hope of the party in the 2028 general election and all party members who have been ostracised or left the NPP one way or the other.

He has, therefore, called on the delegates of the party to elect him as the party’s flag bearer for the 2028 general election to bring back the party to power and all those who are no longer in the party, including senior members like Alan Kyerematen.

He said as a unifier and a grassroot person, he was poised to unite the party and return it to power if given the nod by the delegates of the party.

“I was sacked as the party’s General Secretary and I still work for the party and campaigned for all the flag bearers of the party since 1992 to date, and when given the nod by the delegates to lead the party in the 2028 general election as the flag bearer I will work to bring back all senior members of the party such as Mr Alan Kyerematen and all those who have left the party one way or the other.” he said.

Mr Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the NPP, was speaking at a gathering in Accra yesterday to announce officially his candidacy for the party's presidential nomination for the 2028 general election.

This is the third time Mr Agyapong is entering the race for the party’s flag bearer. The first was in 2007 and the second time was in 2023.

The event, attended by some party stalwarts, including former ministers of state, former Members of Parliament (MP), former regional executives and some party members was also used to open the campaign office of Mr Agyapong and the unveiling of his flagbearership campaign advisory board.

The board is chaired by a former Minister of Foreign Affairs under former President Kufuor’s administration, Akwasi Osei-Adjei, with members including a former Minister of Local Government and MP for Sunyani West, Kwadwo Adjei Darko; a former MP for Suhum, Ransford Agyapong, who is also the political advisor to Mr Agyapong and a former MP for Kade, Ofosu Asamoah.

Also present at the event was the former Minister of Health under former President Akufo-Addo’s administration, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye.

Mr Agyapong was accompanied by his wife, Dr Lawrencia Agyapong, and two of his children to the event.

Unity

Addressing the gathering, Mr Agyapong,  a Civil Engineer, stressed the need for unity and renewal within the party.

He called on the party’s delegates to choose a leader who can inspire hope and development, stressing that the party's future depended on it.

He described himself as a leader who could bring people together and drive the party's agenda forward.

“The time for renewal is now.

The time for hope is now.

The time for KAA is now," Mr Agyapong declared and added that "Ghana has to be engineered into prosperity"

Mr Agyapong said his bid to be the party’s 2028 flag bearer was not only to reinvigorate the party but also built around his vision for the country’s development, leveraging his experience as a former General Secretary and his expertise as a civil engineer.

“My aim is to lead the NPP to victory in 2028 and drive the country's progress,” he said.

Credentials

Touting his credential as a true party man who has paid his dues to the party, Mr Agyapong said his long-standing dedicated service to the NPP party was a matter of public record.

“I have dutifully served all our flag bearers since the onset of the Fourth Republic, as a young activist presenting the NPP's party political broadcast on GTV in 1992 during the Adu Boahen campaign, as press secretary to former President J.A Kufuor, as General Secretary of the party after my overwhelming victory at the Tamale Congress in 2014.
