I will re-energise NPP for victory — Bawumia

The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to support reorganisation efforts of the party and re-energise its support base ahead of the 2028 general election.

He, therefore, called for discipline and hard work among party structures at all levels, as unity of purpose would be critical to future success.

Addressing some party members as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, Dr Bawumia pointed out that the NPP remained a formidable political force and could regain the trust of Ghanaians if the party stayed focused on the needs of the people.

“Together, we can turn things around.

The people of Ghana still believe in the vision of the NPP, but it is up to us to show them through action, humility and dedication that we are ready to serve again,” he added.

2024 Defeat

While acknowledging that several factors contributed to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election, Dr Bawumia expressed confidence that the party could bounce back stronger.

“There were indeed multiple factors that led to our loss in 2024, and we must be honest with ourselves in recognising them. But this is not the time for despair — it is a time for renewal and rebuilding,” he said.

He, therefore, urged members and supporters of the party to remain united as they prepared for the future.

Fomena

During his interaction with the party faithful at Fomena, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrews Asiamah, urged members of the NPP to rally behind Dr Bawumia as the party’s flag bearer for the 2028 elections.

“He is the one whose handiwork Ghanaians have seen, so let us honour him.

Help us uplift him, and Ghanaians will honour him. I believe through his leadership, Ghana will see significant progress,” Mr Asiamah said.

The Second Deputy Speaker described Dr Bawumia as “capable” and “knowledgeable,” stressing that his track record made him the natural choice for the party.

“He is the one Ghanaians expect us to present. So all of us should help to uplift him. We have heard and seen so much about him, and he has all the attributes,” he added.

Wealth

On his part, a former NPP Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond, chastised flag bearer aspirants boasting about their wealth and financial contributions to the party.

“If they want to turn this party into the rich versus the poor, then we want to tell them that we, the poor, who are in the majority, are for Dr Bawumia,” Mr Hammond declared.

He recalled the financial struggles the NPP endured during the 1990s, insisting that many of those now flaunting their wealth were absent then.

“When we wanted money to build the party, where were all these people now bragging and insulting us with their money?

The party was so broke before the 2000 election. Where were all these people?” he asked.
