Three political groups have described former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings as a trailblazer for women's empowerment.
The groups also described her as a remarkable woman whose impact on Ghana’s social and political history will never fade.
In separate tributes on her passing, the Majority Caucus in Parliament, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) saw Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings as an epitome of the strength and resilience of Ghanaian women, particularly in political leadership and socio-economic empowerment.
Majority caucus
In its statement, the Majority Caucus said the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings paid her dues to the country.
It extended its condolences to the family and the country for the great loss.
It acknowledged that she was the mother of the NDC Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, who is also the Chairperson of the Security & Intelligence Committee of Parliament.
NDC
On its part, the NDC hailed Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings as a trailblazer for women’s empowerment, whose leadership through the 31st December Women’s Movement transformed the lives of countless Ghanaian women and children.
It said her lifelong commitment to the empowerment of women and children had left an indelible mark on Ghana’s history.
It stated that as one of the founding pillars of the NDC, she played a critical role in shaping the party’s ideals and identity.
“Even though political circumstances later saw her establish another party,” it said, her place in its story remains deeply significant.
The statement recalled how on June 22, 2025, the party made a public declaration for Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings to be restored to her rightful place as the Founding Mother of the NDC.
“That acknowledgement, made while she was still with us, reaffirmed that the NDC has always held her legacy in respect and gratitude,” the statement emphasised.
NPP
The NPP said Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings’ unparalleled advocacy greatly influenced national policies and laws relating to the rights of women and children.
It acknowledged her vital role in bringing into force the famous Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111), which had guaranteed the inheritance rights of women and children.
The statement described her as a perfect example of a true woman who was resolute in the fight for women's emancipation.
“Ghana has not just lost a mother and a political colossus but also an embodiment of inspiration,” it stated
