NDC will retain Wenchi seat, make it our stronghold — Asiedu Nketiah

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will do everything possible to retain the Wenchi seat and make it a safe seat for the NDC, the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has given an assurance.

"As long as I remain the National Chairman of the NDC, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will never come close to the Wenchi seat. We will make the seat a no-go area for the NPP," he said.

Mr Nketiah was addressing a mini rally at Nkosia near Wenchi in the Bono Region, as part of his seven-day campaign tour of the region.

Stronghold

Even though the constituency is a stronghold of the NPP, the seat fell to the NDC during the 2020 general election.

Mr Nketiah said once the seat now belongs to the NDC, the party will protect it and ensure that NPP never comes close to the seat.

He said this year's election was crucial for the NDC, explaining that the party valued every single vote and charged the party to work hard to increase the votes.

For his part, the NDC MP and Parliamentary aspirant for the Wenchi Constituency, Alhaji Seidu Haruna, said the party had targeted to retain the seat with 10,000 votes difference.

He said in the 2020 general election, the NDC beat the NPP Parliamentary candidate with 30,000 votes to win and had targeted to increase the votes.

At Yawkrom in Dormaa Central, Mr Nketiah vowed to unseat the NPP incumbent MP for the area, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu and NPP MP for the Dormaa East Constituency, Paul Apreku Twum-Barimah.

Cocoa Roads

The NDC Parliamentary aspirant for the area, John Adu Jack, urged the government to make the Cocoa Roads contract audit findings public.

Mr Adu, whose area is a beneficial of the upgrading of roads in Cocoa growing areas, said after eight years of auditing, the government was yet to release the findings against the past government under the contracts awarded, although the construction of the roads had been suspended.

He said they were yet to see the report, so that the contractors would resume work.

Mr Nketiah on Sunday suspended the tour at Banda Ahenkro to attend an emergency meeting convened by the party to discuss issues of the Supreme Court ruling that halted the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin’s declaration of the seats of four Members of Parliament (MP) vacant.
