NPP commends Majority caucus for displaying maturity
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has commended the NPP Majority Caucus in Parliament for displaying maturity, particularly during the sitting of Parliament last Tuesday amid the extreme provocation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus.
It said the NPP MPs demonstrated that the party's fidelity to the rule of law and protection of the peace and stability of our dear country remained unmatched.

“The party deeply appreciates the unwavering resolve of our MPs, led by the Majority Leader, to use lawful processes to resist the attempt by the NDC to unconstitutionally reconfigure the composition of Parliament and shift the balance of power in the august house in pursuance of its partisan political agenda,” it said in a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.
It said the Supreme Court had vindicated the position taken by the Majority Caucus and ordered the Speaker to rescind his unlawful and undemocratic decision.
Eschew partisanship
It urged the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to eschew his extreme partisan posture when handling the affairs of the august house since he was not an MP.
“It is an extremely dangerous posture and threatens to undermine the very essence of our democracy. His mandate under the Constitution, as well as his oath of office, enjoins him to act as a referee and not a player,” he said.
The statement said said it was important for the Speaker to appreciate the supremacy of the Constitution “and realise that neither Parliament nor himself is above the very Constitution which created his office and from which he draws his authority in Parliament.”
It said Mr Bagbin must also realise that it was only the Supreme Court that had the mandate under the Constitution to interpret and enforce all the provisions of the Constitution.

NDC
It reminded the NDC that the determination of which political party constituted Minority or Majority in Parliament was made by the Ghanaian electorate at the polls.
“It is not manufactured in Parliament with the aid of a partisan Speaker. They should, indeed, be guided by the free advice given to them by the next President of Ghana, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to focus on winning majority seats at the polling stations and not in Parliament,” it said.
“We are currently enjoying peace, stability, economic growth, but in their quest for political power, the NDC want to destabilise the entire country and risk the lives of every Ghanaian. Their behaviour is irresponsible, undemocratic and unpatriotic,” it stated.
The statemensaid a Bawumia-led government and NPP Majority Caucus would uphold the rule of law, strengthen Ghana's democracy and continue to keep the country on the path of peace and prosperity.
