NPP will win December polls — Hackman
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will stop at nothing to emerge victorious in the December 7 general election, the Chairman of the NPP National Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, has said.
"Losing is not an option in this election. We will do everything to win," he stated.
Mr Owusu-Agyeman, a former Foreign Affairs Minister under former President Kufuor’s administration, said this in an interview with the Daily Graphic after the party’s Council of Elders meeting held in Accra last Friday to interact with some youth of the party.
It forms part of a mentorship programme initiated by the NPP’s National Council of Elders to instil the party's philosophy, ideology, selflessness and patriotism in its young members.
He stressed the importance of unity among party members, saying, "We need to put ourselves together and let the nation know the good work this government has done."
"The difficulties of the past notwithstanding, we have done so well. We deserve a second chance from Ghanaians to continue the good work," he said.
Commitment
Mr Owusu-Agyeman stated that NPP's resolve to win the upcoming election was crucial to its determination to continue its legacy of promoting prosperity, stable democracy, and good governance.
He commended the party’s Presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's vision for the country’s future, highlighting his bold solutions to governance and the socio-economic development of the nation.
He said Dr Bawumia’s message of digitalisation was critical to the growth of the country’s economy and job creation.
‘We’re talking about digitalisation and then Artificial Intelligence (AI) and all this. That's where we need to go. Going forward into the next century, what we need is to be digital,” he said.
“To be able to use the systems of AI to move the country forward, Dr Bawumia is the man to do it. He is a good leader, a good general to lead us to win this historical election,” Mr Owusu-Agyeman stated.
He therefore called on the electorate, especially the youth and first-time voters, to prioritise the future and the progress of the country and vote massively for the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Bawumia, in the December 7 presidential poll.
Mentoring
Mr Owusu-Agyeman stressed the importance of the mentorship programme to the future of the party.
“I believe sincerely that the future of this party, especially in achieving its aims and objectives of our political tradition, should rely on a system of mentorship of the younger generation of what we have done before, what we need to do now, what we also need to do going forward,” he said.
“I sincerely believe that once we understand the essence of our party, the political philosophy and tradition of our party, we should be able to move it forward. And then we will not be in a situation to compromise in any way what is right and what is not right,” he stated.
