The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Asokwa Municipality in the Ashanti Region, Amoh Kamel, has urged Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to put the working tools provided to them to good use to contribute to the growth of the local economy.
“It is an open secret that many of you are living under challenging conditions and that is why the government has provided you with this support to enable you to engage in a profitable venture towards local economic development,” he said.
He said the support was an opportunity for them to come out of their shells to undertake income-generating businesses in the informal sector to improve their living conditions.

Mr Kamel made the remarks at a brief ceremony at the forecourt of the municipal assembly, where financial support for health, educational needs and start-up equipment worth GH¢262,712.00 was presented to 47 PWDs within the municipality.

The Chairperson of the Disability Fund Management Committee (DFMC) in the municipality, Gifty Afi Wetsi, implored the beneficiaries not to look down upon themselves but to strive to earn a living rather than depend on others.
The Municipal Director, Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Dickson Frimpong, said the assembly would embark on monitoring the beneficiaries to ensure that the equipment was put to good use, stressing, “the beneficiaries made their own requests and we will ensure that the equipment is used for the intended purposes”.
