Give me mandate to rule - Akufo-Addo tells Ghanaians
The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, took his campaign to a number of churches in the Takoradi and Effia constituencies on Sunday, with a plea to the congregations to give him the opportunity to lead the country.

“I am pleading with you to try me also, so I can show you what I can do for this country and I promise I will never let you down,” he told the Christians on the the first Sunday of Lent.
On his campaign to win the confidence of the electorate during the first leg of his four-day tour of the Western Region, Nana Akufo-Addo asked churches to pray for Mr J. B. Danquah-Adu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, who was gruesomely murdered last Tuesday, and Mr Ben Kwaw, the late acting chairman of the party in the region.
“I am asking you to pray for me too. Pray to God so He grants me strength, courage, wisdom and a compassionate heart to be a good leader. In this election year, I am asking for your support for me and the NPP. I am pleading with you to try me also, so I can show you what I can do for this country and I promise you I will never let you down,” he said.
Great destiny
Nana Akufo-Addo, who received tumultuous welcome in each of the churches he worshipped at, told congregants that though "we're going through difficult times in Ghana, I believe we have a great destiny ahead of us. We have an opportunity, this year, to peacefully change Ghana. I am inviting all of you to look deep inside yourselves and be part of this Movement for Change, so we can have a Ghana that is fit for our young people to grow up in; a Ghana full of wealth and jobs for all our people".
Pastors and the congregants of the six churches accepted his request and duly prayed for Ghana, him and the NPP.
The NPP flag bearer, who was accompanied by national and regional party stalwarts, worshipped at the Bethel Methodist Church in Takoradi, Dunwell Methodist Church, Assemblies of God, Good Shepherd Anglican Church, the Church of Pentecost (Police Station Assembly) and the Presbyterian Church, all in Effia.
He was accompanied by the acting National Chairman of the NPP, Mr Freddie Blay; the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and NPP MP for Essikadu Ketan, Mr Joe Ghartey; Mr Papa Owusu Ankomah, a former NPP Minister and currently MP for Sekondi; the NPP National Women’s Organiser, Ms Otiko Afisa Djaba; the Deputy National Women’s Organisers, Hajia Sawudatu and Diana Karikari; the Regional Second Vice-Chairman, Mr Francis Ndede Siah; Mr Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah, MP for Takoradi; Mr Joseph Cudjoe, MP for Effia; Mr Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, MP for Bibiani/Anhwaiso/Bekwai, and the NPP parliamentary candidates in the region.

Nana Akufo-Addo also paid a courtesy call on the family of the late Ben Kwaw at Kwesimintsim.
He and the leadership of the NPP are expected to be at the late Kwaw’s one-week funeral service which will be held at the Mount Olivet Church in Takoradi today.
