I’ll help NPP recapture power in 2016 - Agyapong

An aspiring General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwabena Agyapong, has once again pledged to help the NPP recapture power in 2016 to help relieve the plight of the Ghanaian citizenry.

He said he would work closely with party officers at polling stations and constituency and regional offices to ensure that the party was provided the required logistics and training.

He was addressing a press conference at his campaign office at Nima (Accra) yesterday. The conference was to keep the public abreast of his campaign and to affirm his stand to contest for the General Secretaryship of the party.

Party unity

The General Secretary aspirant promised to restore genuine unity within the party to ensure total victory in the 2016 general election.

Throwing light on his campaign journey, he said his outfit had since the last two-and-a-half months embarked on a journey to 272 constituencies out of the 275.

He observed that his outfit, on its travels, ascertained many challenges facing most of the constituencies, particularly those in the rural areas.

“Our overall assessment of the party’s machinery throughout the country is not the best and may prove incapable of  delivering us the much-desired victory in 2016,” he said.

He, therefore, called on the appropriate authorities to make available the necessary logistics and a proper work plan to ensure that the NPP reached out to the ordinary Ghanaian no matter the distance.

Strong aspirations

In his address, Mr Agyapong assured Ghanaians, particularly his supporters, that he was the right man to be accorded the mantle to serve as general secretary of the party, since he possessed the needed repertoire of knowledge and offered practical leadership that was intensely action-oriented and mission-minded.

He indicated that he would help pull the strings to revive the spirit of service, sacrifice and selflessness and rejuvenate the base of the party.

“I shall restore the party, as a genuinely united force, and ensure that the party machinery at the grass root is resourced and well oiled to prosecute an effective campaign to recapture power in 2016,” he observed.

According to him, he nurses a strong desire to serve the NPP with a clear conscience, adding that his compassionate lifestyle will encourage a leadership style that will help understand people, love and help them in diverse ways.

Advice to party members

Speaking on ways to ensure a resounding victory in the 2016 general election, Mr Agyepong appealed to the party faithful to eschew divisive tendencies.

He indicated that the party was one that embraced a sense of diversity, and that party members should be guided by the principles of choice in the event of selecting national officers to run the affairs of the party.
