I’m commited to fighting corruption — Prez

President John Mahama has stated that he receives progress report every fortnight from the Attorney-General on efforts being made to retrieve money paid to service providers under the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) and the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).

He told journalists in Accra yesterday, during a news conference to mark his first anniversary in office, that the government had made progress in retrieving some of the money and blamed the payment to the service providers on the institutional weakness of GYEEDA and SADA.

President Mahama explained that there was a delay in putting in place an institutional framework, for which reason GYEEDA lacked the institutional capacity to sign huge contracts with service providers to ensure accountability in the execution of those contracts.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to retrieve the money, saying that the Attorney-General’s Department had prepared some dockets for the prosecution of those involved in the malfeasance.

“Very soon you will see some action being taken on the matter,” President Mahama said.

Similarly, the president indicated that the government had made progress on the SADA issue and said he had given instructions for the retrieval of the money paid to institutions.

“We will take measures to ensure that moneys belonging to the good people of Ghana are not squandered,” President Mahama asserted.
