I won’t arbitrarily cancel health contracts, but I’ll review them – Mintah Akandoh

Health Minister nominee Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has given an assurance that he will not arbitrarily terminate existing contracts in the health sector if approved for the role.

Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Friday, January 31, Mr Akandoh underscored the importance of the private sector in national development and pledged a fair approach to contractual agreements.

"Mr Chairman, we all know the private sector is the engine of growth, and I am not prepared to capriciously terminate any contract in the sector," he stated.

However, he maintained that while he would not act impulsively, he would scrutinise agreements where necessary to ensure efficiency and value for money.

"When there is the need for me to look into something, I will," he added.

He cited the medical drone delivery service as a laudable initiative but hinted at a possible review of its contract due to some concerns.

His remarks come amid growing calls for greater accountability in government contracts, particularly in the health sector.
