Intensify education to promote peaceful elections - Ya-Na urges NCCE
The Overlord of Dagbon,Ya-Na Abukari II, has admonished the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to intensify its civic education on peaceful dialogue and issues-based political campaigns as the country goes to the polls on December 7.
He expressed concern about the increasing incidents of lawlessness and violence in the country during election periods, and urged the commission to step up efforts to promote a peaceful, free and fair election.

"Our country is facing a significant threat of lawlessness and violence as the elections approach.
A lot needs to be done to prevent this for the sake of all Ghanaians," he stated.
He also emphasised the need for effective collaboration between traditional leaders, political parties and state institutions to ensure peaceful elections.
Courtesy call
Ya-Na Abukari II made the call when the Chairperson of the NCCE, Kathleen Addy, paid a courtesy call on him at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
The visit was to solicit the support of the Ya-Na for campaigns for an incident-free period in the upcoming elections.
Caution
In his remarks, the overlord further cautioned the youth to remain vigilant and not allow themselves to be exploited by politicians to engage in violent activities.

For her part , Ms Addy expressed her gratitude to the Ya-Na for his support and reaffirmed the commission's dedication to promoting peace and civic responsibility throughout the elections period.
"Our visit is to solicit the Ya-Na's support for a peaceful election, and his support and full cooperation to ensure an incident-free election,” she added.
