Its time to say goodbye to NDC govt - Bawumia

The Running Mate of the NPP Flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said it was time for Ghanaians to say goodbye to the NDC government since it has succeeded in deforming the country instead of transforming it.

“Notwithstanding the NDC’s claim of transforming lives and the economy, the country cannot settle its statutory obligations while inflation is on the rise and food crop growth is on the decline”, he said.

Dr Bawumia was speaking at the 15th Extraordinary National Delegates’ Conference held in Sunyani on Saturday.

He questioned how a government which was riddled with such failures claimed to had been successful after seven years in power.

“It is like a father who has been given a fortune and had not been able to pay the school fees of his children and after seven years he comes back to say that he is in a process of building a house”, he stated philosophically.

NPP’s record

Responding to issues raised in President Mahama’s Green Book which catalogues his achievements, the NPP Running mate stated that with a relative GhȻ20 billion in taxes and loans, the NPP was able embark on a lot of programmes that raised the living standards of the people.

He catalogued some of the programmes as the National Youth Employment Programme, the School Feeding Programme, Capitation Grant, the Metro Mass Transit, and National Health Insurance Scheme, Free Maternal Care Programme, the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) and a number of infrastructure projects among others.

He said after seven years in power during which the NDC had borrowed over $37 billion and raised about GhȻ200 billion from taxes, many of the projects mentioned in the Green Book were either on drawing board or remained artistic impression.

Dr Bawumia said many of the projects had also been over-priced because between 80 to 85 per cent of those projects were awarded on contracts through sole-sourcing.

He added that many of the projects embarked on by the NDC were also riddled with corrupt practices and mentioned the branding of the Metro Mass Transit buses, AMERI and SADA to buttress his claim.

Close ranks

He called on member of the party to close their ranks to enable the party’s flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo to win the 2016 polls in order for him to deliver the people from the economic hardships created by the NDC administration.

“We have an incorruptible leader in Nana Akufo Addo. We will build an economy which will be capable of creating jobs and offering hope for Ghanaians”.

Dr Bawumiah said an NPP administration after 2016 would restore the teacher and nursing trainee’s allowances which had been abolished by the NDC government.

He thanked Nana Akufo Addo for re-nominating him to be his running mate and pledged to work hard to assist the flag bearer and the NPP to recapture power next year.
