Johnson Ehiakpor to contest NDC post in ER
A Former District Chief Executive of Asuogyaman in the Eastern Region, Mr Johnson Ehiakpor, has declared his intention to contest as the regional secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His declaration comes against the background that the incumbent, Mr Anthony Gyampo, has decided not to seek re–election.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic in Koforidua, Mr Ehiakpor, who was district chief executive from 2008 to 2013, said when given the opportunity, he would work along three thematic areas.
He said establishing good rapport between the regional office and the constituencies would be high on his agenda.
He also mentioned that there was the need for good communication to ensure that information was well-disseminated to all rank and file of the party in the region.
Mr Ehiakpor said the needs of all the constituencies would also be attended to so as to make members dedicate themselves wholeheartedly and work for the NDC to retain power come 2016.
“I will finally draw a visitation programme to enable all challenges and issues affecting the party to be resolved to make us stronger because anytime the NDC appreciates in votes in the Eastern Region, the party wins national elections”, he added.
According to him, cadres of the party would be mobilised through an outreach programme and that would go a long way to unify the party.
“Everybody will be made to come on board. We need to forget any ill-feelings against one another and come together to make the NDC much stronger”, he said.
On his chances, Mr Ehiakpor was optimistic that looking at the warm reception accorded him in all the constituencies that he had visited so far, “ I am sure that the delegates will vote for me to become the regional secretary of the great NDC”.
