“Let's ensure enduring political and religious tolerance”

The Reverend Kofi Amfo-Akonnor, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has asked Ghanaians to work together to promote enduring political and religious tolerance.

Delivering the sermon at a Christmas service at the Adum Ramseyer Church, Kumasi, he noted that disturbances and violence plaguing many African nations had their roots in religious and political intolerance.

“As we enter another critical electioneering year, it is my hope that our leaders preach peace and tolerance to foster stability and socio-economic growth.”

He said it was important that Christians used the occasion to renew their faith and avoid anything that could dent the image of the church.

He reminded them that just as Christ gave up his life for the salvation of mankind, they were enjoined to promote the welfare of the poor and underprivileged.

The Rev Amfo-Akonnor encouraged them to be bold to speak against injustices in the society - corruption, abuse of the poor and marginalized.
