Let’s fight corruption at all levels — UCF

United Cadre Front  (UCF) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the President, government functionaries and appointees to lead the fight against corruption at all times.

According to the group, the government  should ensure that all contracts were executed according to specifications to reduce shoddy works to the barest minimum, carrying governance to the people and courting their full participation.

That, the group explained, would lead to the  judicious use of state resources to the best advantage of the citizenry.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Mr Kofi Aikins, the group urged the opposition parties to  play their role as partners in development but not to engage in destructive criticisms.

The UCF said the opposition ought to be more objective in their criticisms and less antagonistic to the NDC as a political party.

That was contained in a congratulatory message sent to Ghanaians, the President the  leadership and members of the NDC, as well as all progressives  on the occasion of the Yuletide and New Year.

The statement congratulated President Mahama for braving the challenges of 2013 and resolutely remaining focused on the Better Ghana Agenda of improving the fortunes of all.

According to the statement, the year 2013 came with it, issues that tested the resilience of the NDC as a veritable political party.

It explained that eight months of Supreme Court battle over the 2012 presidential election, energy crisis, unprecedented array of market fires, organised industrial threats, selective media bash, insensitivity of the opposition NPP and bickering and dissent within the NDC itself came to pass with little nostalgic feelings.

It concluded that despite these seeming insurmountable problems, a lot had been achieved in terms of laying the foundations in order to propel the economy to that of a high middle level status; improved foreign image, increased power generation, improved transportation systems and reduced crime rates.
