LMVCA accuses EC of "cooking up" NHIS registrants list

Pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of concocting the names of persons believed to have registered to vote with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards.

According to LMVCA, the list of over 56,000 persons believed to have registered with the NHIS cards never existed on the electoral register.

The EC on Thursday published the full list of persons whose names have been deleted from the voters’ register because they used the NHIS card to register.

The EC’s action follows a Supreme Court order that the names be deleted because the NHIS card was not sufficient proof of Ghanaian citizenship.

But speaking on Citi FM Friday, convener for the group, David Asante alleged that the list of over 56,000 names were “cooked”.

“The Electoral Commission couldn’t have produced the list or they will produce and fake a document and present to the court and the plaintiffs. As it stands now, the Electoral Commission has managed to fake 56,000 names and forged corresponding NHIS card numbers and put it in front of those names,” Mr Asante said.

“They never existed on the electoral register. No wonder some of them are car numbers, telephone numbers and even house numbers. That’s how bad the situation is,” he further alleged.
