Mabengba’s posters pop up in Tamale, eyes Chairmanship slot
The campaign posters of a former Northern Regional Minister under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, who is seeking to contest the party's Northern regional chairman position has popped up in the Tamale metropolis, the regional capital.
Although nominations for the regional executive elections for the opposition NDC are yet to be opened, the former regional minister, who served under former President's Mills's administration and later became Ghana's Ambassador to Angola is said to have expressed his strongest desire to contest the regional chairmanship position.
Some regional executives of the NDC in Tamale who spoke to the Daily Graphic have confirmed that the former regional minister is indeed preparing to put himself up for the chairmanship position, which is currently being occupied by Mr Sofo Azorka, the incumbent NDC Northern Regional chairman.
Although the regional executives expressed concerns about the move by the former Northern Regional Minister to contest the chairmanship position, they said they could not do anything about it, adding that for now he had just expressed the interest to contest.
Branch/constituency elections
Meanwhile, the party has successfully completed its branch elections in the region which, according to Mr Rashid Computer, the NDC Northern Regional Director of Elections, went well.
He added that nominations for the party's constituency electrons would open from May 7 to May 11, 2018.
Mr Computer added that nominations for the regional elections would follow as soon as the constituency elections were over.
