Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga on NDC’s position on Anti-Gay Bill

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in Parliament was firm on its stance on the Anti-Gay Bill, which it has maintained since the last election. And that is, the bill must be passed.

His comment follows a recent remark by President John Dramani Mahama, who has suggested that a government-backed bill might be more effective than the existing Private Member’s Bill.

According to President Mahama, such an approach would allow for broader consultations and foster a stronger national consensus on the matter.

During a meeting with the Bishops on January 14, 2025, President Mahama also underscored the importance of revising the school curriculum to include moral and cultural education. This, he believes, would help instill Ghanaian and African values in young learners.

In a monitored interview with Channel One TV on Monday, January 27, Mahama Ayariga clarified that legislative proposals that are not concluded within a parliamentary term typically lapse, along with the administration under which they were introduced.

Reaffirming the NDC’s commitment to the bill, Mr Ayariga dismissed any speculation of a change in the party’s stance.
