Manhyia North NPP elects officers

The Manhyia North Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has finally held its executive election, thereby paving the way for the much-awaited primary to elect its parliamentary candidate.

After several thwarted attempts to elect its constituency executive, the regional executive finally managed to hold the election last Saturday, albeit with controversies, and set the date for the primary this Saturday.

It was a total overhaul of the executive, as all the old executive lost their positions to a completely new set of executive to manage the affairs of the constituency.

Controversy

The constituency has been involved in a controversy for almost four years over the membership of the executive.  As a result, the constituency was prevented from taking part in the regional and national delegates congresses that elected the regional and national executives of the party.

It was for the same reason that it was unable to take part in the nationwide parliamentary primaries that were held about a year ago by the party.

After several court rulings and out-of-court settlements, the regional executive set up an election committee to oversee the running of the polling station executive election and that of the constituency executive for the parliamentary primary to take place.

Just a fortnight ago, the then chairman of the election committee, Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, resigned from his position less than 24 hours to the polling station executive election, accusing the Regional Chairman, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, of frustrating the process.
