In a congratulatory message to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for coming out of its elections with colours that are flying high her democratic credentials,  the NDC also congratulated President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari on his victory and also called on his supporters to exercise moderation in their victory celebrations.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the party also lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for exhibiting a solid sense of statesmanship by his acceptance of the choice of the people of Nigeria.

According to the NDC, it was not oblivious of the fact that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) was cashing in on the regime change in Nigeria to boost its ego as Ghana inches towards the 2016 general election.

It said that in spite of the contorted picture the NPP sought to paint, “it is on record that the NDC did not take any partisan position as regards the Nigerian elections.

“The NDC is therefore imploring all party activists not to fall for the NPP bait of wanting to draw the NDC into any unnecessary Nigerian partisan debate,” it stated.

According to the statement, the NDC respected the will and wish of the majority of Nigerians and assured Ghanaians that “we will at all times respect our chosen democratic path and also respect the will and wish of the good people of Ghana as we still stay committed to building a better Ghana.”
