The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted five committees to see to the implementation of the recommendations in the Professor Kwesi Botchwey’s Committee that probed the party’s defeat in the 2016 general election.

A Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Koku Anyidoho, made this known in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra.

Committees

Mr Anyidoho last Tuesday told the Daily Graphic that the committees comprised NEC members, very senior party members, old guards, members of the cadre corps, as well as the youth to engage all segments of the party.

He said the committees had started work, with meetings taking place at the Adabraka headquarters of the party.

According to him, the committees would move across the country to iron out all the challenges in the report and called on all to cooperate and support the various committees for the effective implementation of the recommendations in order to enhance the party’s fortunes in the 2020 election.

Background

The 13-member Kwesi Botchwey Committee’s 455-page report christened “Listening to the Grassroots’’ recommended to the party to put together a peace mission and take steps to restore the integrity of the party’s biometric register and the expanded electoral college as part of its reorganisation process.

It also recommended to the party to restore and strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of its organs at the branch level since they constituted effective tools for unity and cohesion within the party.

The committee further recommended to the party to improve on its collation of election results and take steps to reconnect with its social democratic values and beliefs.

Another recommendation was the strengthening of research and intelligence in the party which should involve the coordination in the larger body of the party’s intellectual capacity which had not been active in the last few years.

It also called for the scaling up and reinvigorating of the youth and women organisations within the party in view of demographic changes and urbanisation.

The NEC has since started the implementation of the recommendations after a meeting to consider the report.
