The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Ghana Police Service has provided some details on how it uncovered a network involved in the production, funding and circulation of videos published on TikTok under the account name, "Ghana Jollof".
According to the police, the person behind the Ghana Jollof account is Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, who has been publishing content detrimental to national security.
The police has already declared the said Barbara Asantewaa Kodua as a wanted person.
Addressing a press briefing in Accra on Friday afternoon (Sept 18, 2026), the Director-General of CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor said investigations have established that a nurse residing in Techiman, Salomey Awity Baffoe, recruited other persons to redistribute the videos across various social media platforms.
She said forensic examination of Mrs Baffoe’s mobile phone and mobile money transaction records have also uncovered financial links between her and persons allegedly supporting the activities.
“Highly influential persons in society have transferred significant sums of money to the suspect Salomey, who in turn shares them with Ghana Jollof,” the Director-General of the CID said.
The Commissioner of Police (COP) was providing an update to the public on investigations into the publication of alleged false news, inciting comments and offensive conduct involving Ghana Jollof and the arrest and remand of Salomey Awity Baffoe.
Investigations
She said police intelligence had for some time monitored TikTok accounts operating under the name Ghana Jollof, which had allegedly been used to publish false information and offensive and inciting comments with the potential to cause fear and alarm.
“Over a period of time Barbara Asantewaa Kodua has used her social media platform to produce and publish videos containing offensive and inciting statements with the potential to provoke violence,” COP Donkor said.
She said police investigations had identified Ghana Jollof, believed to be domiciled in the United Kingdom, as the owner of the accounts.
One of the videos under investigation, she said, contained a claim by Barbara that there had been a near coup d’etat at the Jubilee House.
Financial trail
COP Donkor said investigations had uncovered financial arrangements between Ghana Jollof and Mrs Baffoe, including the remittance of money from the United Kingdom to her in the country.
She said Mrs Baffoe allegedly distributed portions of the funds to other persons involved in the redistribution and circulation of the videos.
According to COP Donkor, the police had also identified individuals who allegedly provided financial support for the online activities.
“It will interest you to know that the police also know all those, including high-profile persons within our society, who are funding them through information retrieved from her phones,” she said.
She said forensic analysis of voices, audio and video files and other information retrieved from the mobile devices had produced evidence which would be presented before the court.
“Forensic analysis of voices and other details of thorough investigations of her abetting the various acts have been retrieved from her phone records and transcripts made of them, all of which will be tendered in evidence in court,” COP Donkor said.
Relationship
“Further investigations have proven through the examination of her phone and its contents that the two have been friends. Similarly, the police are also in possession of audio interviews admitting the relationship between the two,” the Director-General of the CID said.
She said the investigation had further established Mrs Baffoe’s alleged role in aiding Ghana Jollof by recruiting other people to redistribute the videos across various social media platforms.
Arrest
COP Donkor said Mrs Baffoe was arrested yesterday (September 17) through a joint effort between the National Signal Bureau and the GPS.
She said she was subsequently put before court on a charge of abetment of crime to wit publication of false news and remanded into police custody to assist investigations and was expected to reappear before the court on September 30 this year.
COP Donkor said investigations were continuing to identify and locate other persons involved in redistributing the videos, as well as the alleged financial sponsors.
She warned the public against online publications and conduct which breach the country’s laws.
“Any acts, conduct and publications that are contrary to provisions of the Electronic Transactions Act 2008, Act 772 and the Criminal and Other Offences Act 1960, Act 29 become criminal offences and will be treated as such,” she said.
COP Donkor urged the public to exercise caution in their online engagements to help maintain safe online spaces.
“I therefore wish to entreat all of us to be guided in our public discourse, especially in our online engagement to ensure safe online spaces for all,” she said.
She gave an assurance that the GPS would continue working with stakeholders and the public to maintain security, law and order both in communities and online.
