The Spain branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended its warm congratulations to Ghana’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, pledging its full cooperation as she assumes her diplomatic duties.
In an interview, the acting secretary of the branch, Hanson Dartey, lauded President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as a long-overdue but welcome decision. “We are extremely grateful to His Excellency President Mahama for heeding our appeal and appointing an ambassador at this critical juncture,” Dartey said. “This shows his commitment to deepening Ghana's diplomatic presence in Europe and attending to the needs of the Ghanaian community here.”
The NDC Spain branch views the appointment of a substantive ambassador as a sign of the Mahama administration’s seriousness about engaging with the diaspora and promoting Ghana’s national interest in Spain. Mr Dartey stated that the branch was ready to work with the new ambassador on matters affecting Ghanaians in Spain, particularly in areas concerning welfare, national development, and diplomatic relations.
“As a Branch, we are willing to engage in open discourse with our new ambassador on matters affecting our community and how best we can work together for the good of all Ghanaians in Spain,” he affirmed.
Mr Dartey further urged Ambassador Sinare Baffoe to address long-standing concerns about inefficiencies at the Ghana Embassy in Madrid. He noted that many members of the Ghanaian community have voiced frustrations over delays and bureaucratic challenges in obtaining essential consular services.
“It is our hope that the new ambassador will help streamline documentation and eliminate unnecessary bottlenecks at the embassy,” he said. “The Ghanaian community in Spain deserves efficient, timely, and respectful service, and we are confident that under her leadership, this vision will be realised.”
As the new ambassador prepares to take up her post formally, the NDC’s Spain branch says it is committed to providing constructive support and serving as a conduit between the embassy and the broader Ghanaian community.
“We look forward to welcoming her warmly and working hand in hand to build a stronger Ghana-Spain relationship for the benefit of our people and our cherished motherland,” Dartey concluded.
