Nduom, Akufo-Addo wish Ivor, CPP well

The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, have congratulated Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet on his election as the 2016 Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

They also congratulated the CPP on holding a successful delegates conference to elect a flag bearer for the 2016 elections.

The CPP, at its presidential primaries at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre at La in Accra, overwhelmingly elected Mr Greenstreet as its presidential candidate for this year’s polls.

He won by 1,288 votes, representing 64.21 per cent of the total votes cast to defeat three other contestants, namely Ms Samia Yaaba Nkrumah, former chairperson of the CPP, Mr Bright Akwetey, the Chairman of the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee of the CPP and anti-corruption advocate, and Mr Joseph Agyapong, a businessman and the party’s coordinator for North America.

Ms Nkrumah garnered 579 votes while Mr Akwetey and Mr Agyapong, — polled 48 and 83 votes respectively.

The total votes cast were 2,006, with 14 spoilt ballots.

Hope to CPP
“ I extend a hand to say "Well Done" to Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet for executing a campaign to bring hope to the CPP and winning the flag bearer contest,” Dr Nduom stated.

According to Dr Nduom, the Chairman and leader of the CPP, Prof. Edmund Delle, also played a determined and a positively purposeful role in bringing the conference to a peaceful conclusion.

“Now, it is up to the executive at the national, regional and constituency levels, the flag-bearer contestants and leading members of the party to unite behind Mr Greenstreet. An important river has been crossed,” he stated.

He said with Ghanaians eager for an issues-based campaign from all political parties and candidates, it was his hope that Mr Greenstreet and the CPP would contribute to shaping the political discourse from one of personality attacks to a competition of programmes, policies and ideas.

“This will help to reinforce the peace and stability of our nation. God bless our democracy, God bless Ghana,” he said.
