NPP candidate embarks on listening tour

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Lezdokuku Constituency, Dr Okoe Boye, has embarked on a listening tour to ascertain problems facing his constituents.

The tour began last Sunday and it saw the parliamentary aspirant visiting a number of  homes within the constituency, especially those on the shoreline in Teshie.

Some of the problems that the people conveyed to the parliamentary nominee were the high price of utilities, insanitary conditions and the high rate of unemployment in the constituency.

Rationale

Speaking to the Daily Graphic after the first day of the tour, the parliamentary candidate said the move was in line with his strategy to have direct interaction with voters and the constituents at large.

“I call it a house-to-house visitation. This is to enable us to identify as many voters as possible and get hold of the problems that they have so that if by God’s grace we come into office, we will already know what is ahead of us,’’ he said.

“At the heart of politics is people; it is, therefore, good to have an interaction with the people so that you will know the real issues on the ground,’’ he stated.

Donation

Dr Boye climaxed the tour by donating a 23 cubic refuse container worth GH¢12,000 to the Teshie community to help in the management of refuse along the beach.

In the view of the aspiring legislator, the level of sanitation in the community was very poor owing to the inadequate waste bins and dumpsites.

“We realised during interactions that people dump rubbish in the open, especially along the beach, because of the lack of litter bins that can be lifted periodically and regularly,’’ he said.

Bad governance

He lashed out at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) describing its style of governance as not being in touch with the real problems facing the people and declared, “We need change in Teshie and Ghana and it is the NPP that has the proven track record to bring about such a change.’’

Present at the ceremony were constituency executives of the party and a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Dr Gladys Norley Ashitey.
