NPP to issue identity cards to members in 2016 and build new headquarters

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will issue identity cards to its members throughout the country in 2016.

The party’s acting General Secretary who also doubles as the National Organiser, Mr John Boadu announced this at the 15th Extraordinary Annual National Delegates’ Conference held in Sunyani on Saturday.

He explained that Article 3(i) of the party’s constitution made a requirement for an up-to-date record of members to be kept.

“We intend to implement this article to ensure that we have records of credible members of our party at the polling station level.”

Mr Boadu asked the regional executives to update the list of patrons explaining that adherence to the provisions within the party’s constitution will assist the party to put systems in place for its proper administration.

Adoption

Mr Boadu also informed the conference that foreign branches of the party were ready to adopt some weak constituencies and assist them with logistics in order for them to improve on their electoral results.

He explained that the party’s director of International Affairs had been tasked to lead the adoption programme and update the secretariat about its implementation.
Training

According to Mr Boadu the party had also organised training of trainers programme for about 3,000 officers at the national, regional and constituency levels to educate them about election matters.

“We intend to train 160,000 party officials at the polling station level to keep them abreast with the conduct of elections.”

V-16

He announced the party’s intention to implement what he called a V-16 concept under which all groups formed in support of the 2016 campaign would be brought under one canopy for proper organisation and control.

He explained that in the past such groups operated discreetly without direction and stated that with the implementation of the V-16 such groups would be co-ordinated by one centre to ensure a co-ordinated organisation for the achievement of the party’s goals.

He thanked the National Executive Committee for the confidence reposed in him and gave assurance that together with other national officers, he would take decisions that would inure to the benefit of the goals set for the party.

For his part, the Acting National Chairman of the party, Mr Freddie Blay called for the proper management of the current internal wrangling of the party.

He stated that the party was governed by rule of law and was therefore ready to welcome people who shared in its aspirations.

Alhaji Adam’s death

He described the death of the former Upper East Regional Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adam as a result of acid bath as a tragedy.

He said it was up to the members of the party to he did not die in vain adding that “We shall not be satisfied with anything less than the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

He also appealed to the police to make sure that the killers of Abubakar Sadiq in the Ashanti Region were arrested and brought to book.

Party Headquarters

Mr Blay announced that some resourceful members of the party had offered to assist it to begin the construction of an untra-modern national headquarters next year.

“We will pursue that while we also try to make the necessary funds available for the 2016 election campaign”, he stated.

Losing candidates

Mr Blay appealed to candidates who lost in the party’s parliamentary primaries to let bygones be bygones and use their energies and resources to assist the winning candidates to win their seats.

He also asked the parliamentary candidates to work hard in order to widen the gaps between their votes and that of their opponents in other parties during the 2016 general elections.
