NYUPED launches 2015 Achievers Awards

The Northern Youth for Peace and Development (NYUPED) has launched the 2015 National Achievers Awards in Wa in the Upper West Region.

This year’s annual awards ceremony will take place in October in Wa where 24 out of 40 shortlisted nominees  will be honoured for their outstanding and dedicated service to humanity.

The Executive Director of NYUPED, Mr Prince Hardi Adams, who disclosed this at a press conference in Wa, said  the NYUPED National Achievers Award was initiated in 2012 as one key objective of NYUPED to honour individuals and corporate entities who had positively impacted society with social intervention and general contribution towards the uplift of the poor and under-privileged.

He explained that the NYUPED as a civil society organisation believed in social equity, probity and accountability, empowering of the vulnerable and marginalised people of the society.

Mr Adams further said the NYUPED strongly advocated respect for the fundamental human rights and freedoms of all persons regardless of  their tribe and social status.

He said it was in this vein that the theme: “Saluting national icons whose social, political, economic and cultural achievements ensured peace in the three northern regions’’, was chosen for the awards ceremony.

Mr Adams said another distinct feature of this year’s award ceremony was that it had been categorised into platinum, gold and diamond for sponsors of the event.

The  24 names of 2015 NYUPED National Achievers Award winners are Naa Dr Charles Imoro Puoure, Overlord of Nandom Traditional Area; Naa Ansoleh Ganaa II Peter Tenganabang Nanfuri, Overlord Jirapa Traditional Council; Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, Overlord Bawku Traditional Authority; Naa Cheek Binalibeni Kambonja II, Overlord, Kumkomber Traditional Authority and Nyeliboliyu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, Regent of Nanumba Traditional Area.

Others are Alhaji Samri Nazim K. Sarroum, Executive Chairman of Samir Engineer and Trading Co. Ltd; Alhaji Yussif Ibrahim, Executive Chairman, Dar- Es Salaam Group of Companies; Alhaji Sami Abudulai Abu-Jajah Executive Chairman,  Jasmedi Group of Companies; Dr Hafez Adam, Taher National Coordinator, Libiefam Malaria Project, Ministry of Health; Mr Peter Azumah, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Maritime Authority; and Mr Kofi Mbiah, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Shippers Authority.

The names also included Alhaji Sumaila Mesuna,   Founder and Executive Chairman, Naagamni Oil Ghana Ltd; Professor Ahmed N. Zakariah, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Ambulance Service; Alhaji A.B.Kasim Nuhu Dy, Chief Executive, Ghana Highways Authority;  and Alhaji Abdulai Alhassan, Ag Director General, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority; Alhaji  Baba Issifu Seidu, Founder and Chief Executive, Bisvel Petroleum Services.

The rest are Mr Steven Kyerematen, Chief Executive Officer, Activa International Ghana Ltd; Alhaji Zuma Mohammed, Executive Chairman, Benab Oil Company Ltd;  Sheikh Abubakari Ismaila Bamaiyi, Executive Chairman, Bamaiyi Properties; Mr Hudu Mogtari, Chief Executive Officer Food and Drugs Authority; Mr  Robert Dwamena, Ag Managing Director, Edward  Ayiruba Ayagle – Municipal Chief Executive Bolgatanga; Salma Iddrisu Owenko, Managing Director, UBI Petroleum Company Ltd and Madam Lydia Lariba Bawa, Commissioner of National Insurance Authority.
