Opare Addo: Prez Mahama nominates NDC Youth Organiser as Minister of Youth Devt and Empowerment

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated lawyer and entrepreneur, George Opare Addo, as the Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, subject to vetting and approval by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee.

Opare Addo is a party organizer whose political activism led to his appointment as National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2018.

A statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson for the President, Felix Kwakye, noted that Opare Addo has mentored several young men and women, many of whom now hold key positions within the NDC.

He also served as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly from 2009 to 2017.

Mr. Opare Addo’s appointment reflects President Mahama’s commitment to harnessing the idealism and energy of the Ghanaian youth in shaping key decisions, particularly on issues like job creation and youth empowerment.

Other nominees by President Mahama include Kwame Governs Agbodza for the Ministry of Roads and Highways, and Agnes Naa Momo Lartey for the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.

Gratitude for nomination

Meanwhile, in a statement shared on his Facebook account, Mr Opare Addo expressed his gratitude to President Mahama for nominating him, describing it as a collective opportunity to reshape the future of the nation’s youth.

Titled "Gratitude, Vision, and a Call to Action," the statement urged young people to unite, regardless of political affiliations, to work together in creating decent jobs, empowering millions, and lifting young people out of poverty.
