PPP Gt. Accra Regional Conference on October 17
The Greater Accra Regional Branch of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) is scheduled to hold its regional conference to elect regional executives on Saturday, October 17, 2015.
The event, which is expected to be witnessed by high-profile officials of the party, is set to take place at the Accra Technical Training Centre near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra at 10 a.m.
The Capital City’s Conference is expected to be graced by the President of Groupe Nduom and the 2012 presidential candidate of the party, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom; the Chairman of the PPP, Nii Allottey Brew Hammond; the Chairman of the Advisory Council, Mr Mike Eghan Jnr, as well as parliamentary candidates in the party who would wish to use the platform to introduce themselves to their constituents.
Each constituency in the region shall present 33 members who shall be card-bearing members in good standing to vote at the conference.
The positions to be contested for in the regional elections are chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer and organiser. Others are assistant organiser, women’s organiser, assistant women’s organiser, youth organiser, assistant youth organiser and education secretary.
The Greater Accra Region shall be the 10th region to have successfully conducted its regional elections, after all the other regions.
The PPP says it is poised to re-energise and entrench its dominance in the political landscape of the country. It is the aim of the party not to come third in the 2016 elections, but to win enough seats to form a considerable majority in Parliament without failing the presidential election.
According to Mr Richard Nii Amarh, Secretary, PPP Elections Committee, the party has not been happy with the level of corruption with impunity in our country; even in the judiciary, as depicted by the recent documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
He said it is the desire of the PPP to separate the office of the Attorney General from that of the Ministry of Justice and appoint an independent state prosecutor who shall prosecute all persons accused of wrongdoing, irrespective of their political affiliation or status in society.
Nii Amarh stated that the PPP was seeking power to use government resources to solve the problems confronting the nation, which the Mahama-led administration has failed to do.
It stated that the PPP is determined to work hard to overtake the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) to become the problem-solving government that will help Ghanaians live the life they deserve.
