Some members of the Ho Municipal Assembly are calling for an emergency meeting on alleged “illegal” renovation of the residence of the Municipal Chief Executive.

The assembly members alleged that Madam Fafa Adinyira awarded contracts for the renovation of her official residence without approval from the assembly.

A letter, signed by 15 assembly members and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), asked the Presiding Member to summon a meeting within seven days in accordance with article 4(b) of the standing orders of the assembly.

One of the signatories, Mr Ransford Delali Kasu, told the GNA that there was no tender for the renovation of the MCE’s residence and that any renovation work at the residence was illegal because it had no approval from the assembly.

He alleged that a “similar exercise” was done at the MCE’s office but the assembly overlooked it, but could not allow the “illegality to continue.”

Mr Kasu said the MCE’s residence was renovated “just” two years ago and saw no justification in removing tiles, electrical installations and plumbing materials in the residence without the assembly’s approval.

The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Yao Semordey, confirmed to the GNA that he had received the letter.

He said though he had not been to the MCE’s residence, some assembly members showed him pictures of renovation works ongoing at the residence without the assembly’s approval.

The MCE, Madam Fafa Adinyira, admitted that renovation works were ongoing at her residence, supervised by the assembly’s works engineer during her absence. — GNA
