Ursula urges NPP youth to start campaigning to retain power in 2020

The Minister of Communications, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful, has urged the youth and women of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to step out and start campaigning for the party to retain power in the 2020 general election.

She said this when the youth wing of the NPP in the Ablekuma West Constituency organised a conference dubbed "Sustaining power 2020:

The role of the youth" at Dansoman in Accra last Saturday.

Mrs Owusu Ekuful, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, stated that it would take the effort of the youth for the NPP to retain power against their opponents in the upcoming elections and called on them to move from their comfort zones to market the significant initiatives the ruling party had implemented.

"I believe that for the NPP to retain power in 2020, it will depend on the youth and women of our party.

It is our duty to work hard for Ghanaians to know our works.

Let us move from our comfort zones and go to other places to market the good initiatives this political party has introduced, which I believe has improved the lives of Ghanaians," she noted.

Reasons for conference

The Youth Organiser of the constituency, Mr Lazarus Lomo, told the over 200 NPP faithful gathered at the event that it was important for them to organise well and work to help their party to retain power convincingly in the 2020 general election.

"We, as the youth in this constituency, deem it necessary to widen the support base of our beloved party, the NPP, to enable us to win both the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2020," he said.

Retain power

The National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, who was the special guest of the occasion, told the elated supporters that it was important for the youth to start mobilising themselves to help to retain power in the 2020 election.

"First of all, I commend you for your efforts in 2016 which helped the party to win.

Now it is time for us to retain power. Most of us have seen the unprecedented performance by the NPP.

Just in close to three years, the benefits are enormous, so for this reason let us not sit aloof for our opponents to come and damage what we have started doing, although we have not met all your expectations," he said.

He said the government of the NPP had implemented social intervention policies that are improving the lives of individuals in the country, citing the Free Senior High School policy, the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) which has employed over 100,000 youth and Planting for Food and Jobs which has benefited over 700,000 farmers.

“The government has recruited over 54,000 and 53,000 new teachers and nurses, respectively, and others,” he stated.

“We will do more if we retain power," Nana Boakye added.
